Best Of War And More, The  - #176

War

1987 Priority 11/19/91

The best disco music of many very good groups.  Fondest memory is of my visit to Gerry Ferguson's home and going with him and Chester to a disco on Madison Street.  I was the only white face within 50 blocks and had a blast especially dancing to Slippin' into Darkness.  Eric Burton is here, on some numbers:  He is some of the best blue eyed soul out of the 60's and 70's

Unforgettable - #436

Warwick, Dionne

1987 Castle 1/1/87

Gift from Alex Mitsuda.  Great songs but a very poor engineered album.  It is a disappointment that Ms. Warwick has made so many bad career choices.  Or, maybe, she signed a contract to give away all the rights to the original hits.  This album has re-recordings of the great ones.  And the quality is all bad.  Her voice does not come through, her talent is not heard.  She's into the same bad business that affected Billie Holiday and other, a few bucks, songs sung, and then release without any quality control.

Mister Magic - #366

Washington Jr., Grover

1975 Motown 1/1/75

I flipped when I heard Mr. Magic.  Better on vinyl than on CD.  You would like this for most reasons if you like R&B or Jazz.  Not as good on CD, poor digitizing.  Needs to be redone.  But still the good moodiest of all Jazz.

Best Of Dinah Washington, The Mad About The Boy- #610

Washington, Dinah

1992 Mercury 1/1/92

Dinah.  A compilation that does the talent credit.  She made some really great music.  There are some really awful recordings out there.  This is not one of them.  Hello Dinah!, welcome to the 90's.  We miss you up there but you are down here with us too.

In The Land Of Hi-Fi - #97

Washington, Dinah

1956 Emarcy 1/1/56

This is 50's jazz vocal.  Not enough emotion in this record, not enough swing but still it is an example of the 50's at it's best.  Washington's "Blue Gardenia" is better but this is a type that historically reflects the vocals of the times.

Mr. Gone - #545

Weather Report

1978 Columbia 1/1/78

Fusion of Jazz Pop and New Age Here.  One of my favorites.  Shared in Milwaukee, the older I get the better I like it.  "river People" was my signal to do "the Dennis" at Satin Doll's with Sharon.  Disco Jazz.
