Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born, The - #251

Marsalis, Bradford

1991 Columbia 5/16/91

Move Bradford from progressive to the popular and this is what you get.  Stuff that you can love and share with everyone.  A quandary?  Which piece of music do you buy?  This has beat and rhythm and melody.  Other Jazz does not.  There must be somewhere to categorize this music.

Purchased: 12/31/91 - Columbia House $16.99

Bloomington - #260

Marsalis, Bradford

1193 Columbia 1/1/93

It is true that Bradford Marsalis has the same musical talent that Wynton has.  But, he does not have the knack of bringing it to the popular front.  There are wonderful riffs on here but it is mostly "progressive".  I find it wondrous that these two brothers can make so much music.  I love their melodic stuff but their progressive stuff I hate.  This album is progressive, when you hear some of it  it is hard to move away.  Ah, talent.  There is a lot here but I don't like to hear the "progressive"

Carnaval - #375

Marsalis, Wynton

1987 CBS Masterwork 1/1/87

The most spirited classical horn I can imagine.  Marsalis does this early 20th Century music with out any of the discipline demanded by classical aficionados.  This if fun "classical".  Everyone likes this album, teens, young adults, mature and seniors.

Soul Gestures In Southern Blue: Thick in the South Soul Gestures in Southern Blue- #256

Marsalis, Wynton

1991 Columbia 7/30/91

Volume 1 of the trilogy.  I failed to like this the first time I heard it.  It is not melodic.  Maybe it is the only thing I could think of.  After hearing it the second time I would like it only a little more.  The themes of the songs don't come through.  The talent of Marsalis does, and so I bought it.  Waiting for the talent of Wynton, we get it here but only the talent, not the rhythm soul.

Soul Gestures In Southern Blue: Uptown Ruler Soul Gestures in Southern Blue - #255

Marsalis, Wynton

1991 Columbia 7/30/91

The second volume of the trilogy.  Jazz that is not to my taste but still the golden sound of Wynton, the finest successful and popular jazz horn player of the last quarter of the 20th century.  This man is as talented in Ellington and Basie but this music is not to my liking.
