Best Of The Manhattan Transfer, The  - #20

Manhattan Transfer, The

1981 Atlantic 1/1/81

This is good Manhattan Transfer but hearing this make me wish the technology was 1990's.  A recording just cranked out.  Not made for technical excellence.  Hard too rate this one a 4 but I like them too much not to.  And these are their hits too

Purchased: 1/1/87 -  $10.99

Bop Doo-Wopp - #65

Manhattan Transfer, The

1985 Atlantic 1/1/85

Manhattan Transfer singing.  Fun, experimental, harmony.  Keep it up MT.  A very good album.  If there was more likable arrangements it would be a 5.  Even without technical excellence.

Brasil - #67

Manhattan Transfer, The

Excellent.  Good Music, good stylization's, no sacrifice to Jazz.  Pop music that is good Jazz too.  My favorite MT album.  And everyone else likes it too.

Manhattan Transfer - #17

Manhattan Transfer, The

1975 Atlantic 1/1/75

Pop stuff by MT got me hooked.  I loved Tuxedo Junction as a single, bought some of their other albums before this one.  Thank goodness.  They do this pop stuff in styles from generations ago to introduce today to it.  Common songs with real vocal variations.  Pat Bentyne is not with them here, she later replaces Laura Masse .  I think this is MT's first album

Mecca For Modems - #16

Manhattan Transfer, The

A 3 only because it is Manhattan Transfer.  Lots of "2"'s music here but a few MT type good harmonies.  Common Jazz trying to be pop.  But not really enough vocal stylization's that they can do.

Offbeat of Avenues, The - #252

Manhattan Transfer, The

1991 Columbia 8/3/91

Manhattan Transfer has done good pop hit singles since their beginning.  This is their only album that can be classified as a pop ALBUM success.  These Jazz shines through just the same.

Purchased: 10/6/91 - J&R $14.99

Swing - #483

Manhattan Transfer, The

1997 Atlantic 7/8/97

Guest Artists Galore.  Fun as Manhattan Transfer does it.  A vocal sense of humor and style.  Absolute vocal variety, testing an era that happened 4 decades ago in a 90's recording.  I love this stuff, it is vocal Jazz as I am familiar with it.

Purchased: 7/17/97 - Coconuts $15.99

Tonin' - #98

Manhattan Transfer, The

1995 Atlantic 2/4/95

A 3 again because it is the Manhattan Transfer but no thrills here at all.  I was really disappointed.  To much of an attempt to repeat the sound of the original hit with just the addition of the MT.  No daring or vocal risks as they usually do.

Purchased: 4/15/95 - J&R $12.98

Vocalese - #66

Manhattan Transfer, The

1985 Atlantic 1/1/85

Vocal stylization's of variety expanding eras for the first time for the Manhattan Transfer.  Oh, If I could get others to listen to this 3 times to appreciate the productions, shared vocal duties and instrument qualities of these voices.  Downbeat best.
