Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best Of George MichaelFor The Heart - #606

Michael, George

1998 Epic 11/10/98

Hit it.  I discovered this artist long after his career had reached stardom.  He was just a pretty boy rock and roller to me initially but after listening I became intrigued.  Sensitive and full of talent.  This one is a bargain to me.

1996 Dreamworks 5/14/96

A 1997 favorite of mine.  Sensitive and thoughtful for a person passing through life.  I did not think George Michael was an artist until I listened to this music.  Not your typical studio pop star music

Songs From The Last Century - #702

Michael, George

1999 virgin 12/14/99

Standards, okay some great ones but under my expectations for some.  I thought there would be more here, sometimes I get it sometimes I don't.  George can give sentimental treatments that are his to give but he does not have the standard down, yet.  I am partial to this stuff so maybe most people would give a 3.

Bathhouse Betty - #603

Midler, Bette

1998 Warner Bros 9/15/98

Bette does it again, you are not aware until you think about it, but she always seems to defy your expectations.  On the first hearing of this I said "what kind of stuff is this, this mix to mix you up".  By the time you get to the last song, with Bette doing the bette(r) torching, you say how does this woman keep me so interested on whatever she does.  It’s not her best album, and there is some stuff on here that you could do without, like a Rap song, but all in all she keeps entertaining, and often makes you smile to think of here performing some of this music.  If I had not seen her on the stage I might not like this so much but I have and I do.

Beaches Original Soundtrack Recording- #69

Midler, Bette

1988 Atlantic 1/1/88

Bette at her best.  Telling stories and being sentimental.  The only way this could get better is if all the songs were great.  There is the obligatory late 1980's duo with someone that was not even in the movie.  Good song but not great.  The movie is a tear jerker, want to cry?  See this movie.

Barely a three rating. .  Too safe a range of selection, her producers have mistaken her type of appeal on this one

Bette, my love.  Why have you not been doing more music like this.  It is good pop music, it is great baby boomer stuff.

Best performer that I know.  Saw her Experience The Divine at Radio City Music Hall on 9/13/1994, its premiere in New York.  This woman can entertain!

For The Boys Music From The Motion Picture- #72

Midler, Bette

191 Atlantic 1/1/91

Bette is fun in the movie but James Caan is miscast.  The two really don't jell.  It's an anti war movie and the "In My Life" takes on new meaning here.  The song is beautiful and is becoming a standard - although written by the British Team of Lennon and McCartney.  Lots of standards to like here and most of them are ok

Gypsy - #602

Midler, Bette

1993 Atlantic 1/1/93

Who would think that Bette would fit this perfectly.  She has that same vibrato that Ethyl Merman had, the same zest and resources.  Was it a success?  I don't know.  How could a Broadway program have the same impact on TV when it is only performed once, no chance to build, a failure or success on one try?  It's a shame, this woman is perfect for this roll as Merman was.

Rose, The - #15

Midler, Bette

1979 Atlantic 1/1/79

Raucous Midler at her most Raucous.  I am not one to like her screaming but she is a premier showman.  This movie, about a Janis Joplin destructive type, was her vehicle.  It rates a 4 for that reason and because it has 'her' song, The Rose.  The best song about life and love in my collection.  "Stay With Me Baby" and "When A Man Loves A Woman" are classics of sorts because of the emotional intensity.

S W I N G !!!  This is THE original of the 40's that made the guys and girls want to DANCE.  Wonderful music, dramatic times and the love of generations now and then and in the future.  This music is classical and for all time.  A wonderful technical recording that will be on catalogs forever (well, maybe).
