Breathless - #152

G., Kenny

1992 Arista

This is "lite jazz".  It sucks, there is little to be of interest here, a few okay pop songs but there is no character as a whole to this very long album.  It might have been of interest to me if the 5 or 6 better songs were mixed and most of the other left out.  There is no accounting for taste because this album sold millions and millions, if it were shorter and more limited it might rate a 3 or a 3+

PassionLast Temptation of Christ - #123

Gabriel. Peter

1989 Geffen

Originally bought the 1st copy in about 1994.  Lost it somewhere in my travels and organization.  Bought my 2nd copy in Hawaii in 1999.  The movie was picked and called blasphemous by Christian organizations country wide.  I found the movie to be a good study about the possible human conflicts that Christ could have had.  The music reflects those possibilities and is intriguing.  Middle eastern sounds make this a World Music

Star is Born, A  - #241

Garland, Judy

1988 Columbia

Fidelity is an issue here, what one might expect for old recordings but boy does this talent show through. It would be a better album if there is not the on stage chatter.  How can you not like greats like "The Man That Got Away"?

Greatest Hits - #590

Gaynor, Gloria

 MCPS

A newer recording, not the originals.  Is good to hear this music again but the originals were so strong how can you really appreciate slightly dissimilar re-recordings.  It is Disco.  Boy was it the rage until it crashed.   Then detested, but now, in 1998 there is a little interest in this beat.

Gershwin Collection Porgy & Bess In Concert- Girl Crazy Overture- #482

Gershwin

1987 Kem-Disc

An economy composite.  I don't really remember where I got this or how much I paid for it.  A classical collection of Gershwin done in the style of the classicals.  But who can miss the Jazz tones here.  The vocals are operatic but the underlying music is Jazz

Porgy and Bess - #59

Gershwin, George

1989 EMI 1/1/88

A very good contemporary piece of American music and a good opera but this recording has a range the makes it sound too much of the stage performance that it is from.  It would be better if it were more of studio album technique.  Still it is good to have the whole thing.
