Beatles, The

1965 Parlophone 1/1/65

The second Beatles movie.  Not the same great mix of songs as the first and the sound track has some filler.  The movie is not a day in the life, just a day in clowning for fans.  Fun music, movie gets boring, but hey, it is the Beatles.  Can we expect more – yes but only during their later musical maturity.  If the 4 every made a musical “filler” in their career this was it.  STILL, there are great songs here.

Let It Be - #611

Beatles, The

1970 Apple 1/1/70

The end of the Beatles.  The last album and we have lost interest in them.  Our lives have moved on and they have changed to much.  This is as it should be.  The legend was ended with this album, their last as a group.  How could it be otherwise.  They had been recorded, published, documented, followed and fanned to the max.  Thank goodness.  If they left us, we left them too.

Live At The BBC - #192

Beatles, The

1994 Apple 9/1/94

This is a period piece that makes it easy to understand why the Beatles became the darlings of the world.  They were  unpretentious and talented.  Before they became TNBT they were people wanting to please by making music they thought theirs.  And by sharing it with those that liked it and them too.  Will we have stars like this again?  The Beatles seemed accessible when this music was recorded by the BBC.  What artists appear on TV or Radio in the 1990’s?  None, not enough money.

Music Singles from just about everywhere, Germany Included.  How can you not like this, some of the songs were recorded in Mono but this is the best fidelity for this ancient music that you’ll find anywhere.  These songs are part of the very fiber of my generation.  “Sie Liebt Dich” “She Loves You in German” is wonderful

Please Please Me - #638

Beatles, The

1963 Parlaphone 1/1/63

The first Beatles Album in Wax that I owned.  It was on the VeeJay label and had a mix I now called better.  Would I say it were better if it were not the more familiar mix?  During those intro days of the Beatles there were at least 5 labels releasing their records.  I can still remember the order of the mix on the wax when I sing along with it.  Even in 1999, I can start the next song before it begins playing.  This mix is unfamiliar for me so the album is less great.

Revolver - #188

Beatles, The

1966 Parlaphone 1/1/66

The Beatles produce rock and hits on as their musical rate of maturity reaches a fever pitch.  Eleanor Rigby! Tomorrow Never Knows.  Good Day Sunshine.  Marvels of the baby boomer generation.  We came of age now knowing that there was musical geniuses in our generation.  The harmony an d unity were never better.  They foursome played as one.  A perfect album as they progressed toward their masterpiece of Sgt Pepper.

Rubber Soul - #187

Beatles, The

1965 Parlaphone 1/1/65

One of the best albums in their rock and roll period (along with “Revolver”) before they started to experiment with other types of music.  A very wonderful outing.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - #287

Beatles, The

1967 Parlophone 1/1/66

Masterpiece!  The popular music world was stoned to death and re-resurrected with this album.  No one knew that your could sell pop albums that were artistic.  The public had been taking pop pabulum for years.  Stuff that was produced by executives only with there ear on the hit, not on the talent of the artists.  George Martin let the Beatles create and he channeled them.  This album is pop nirvana

Yellow Submarine Nothings’s Real- #622

Beatles, The

1968 Parlaphone 1/1/67

A movie sound track this is:  Only a few songs and a lot of filler.  4 songs released here for the first time.  Some reused in the movie and re-released here and the rest filler.  It could be a 4 if only the unreleased songs were considered
