Tide and Time - #307

Basia

1987 Epic

A wonderful album of jazz and salsa.  Paul Levinson, the Wm Lipton Account says it is Portuguese influence (he called it fab – pronounced fob – that is of Port origin) but the musical world says it is Brazilian.  Full of salsa and sass.

Purchased: 10/10/90 – Columbia House $16.99

Baroque Duet - #433

Battle K, Marsalis W

1993 Sony Classical

Great Horn, Good Singing.  I am not sure that Marsalis belongs here, in classical. He can play the music but he sounds too technical.  Battle is a battle.  Her opinion of herself is absolutely under ranked by her artistry.  She is good but as good to be the diva that she tries to be

Purchased: 11/9/93 – Columbia House $17.98

Fidelio Act 1- #358

Bavarian State Opera

1988 MCA Classics 1/1/88

Like this.  It is a chance to listen to Opera at a cheap price.  Got the two disk set and a CD “page through” holder for 9.99

Purchased: 12/10/89 – J&R $9.99

Pet Sounds  - #189

Beach Boys

1966 Capitol 1/1/66

Last of the 50’s type pop music lyrics.  Listed by Entertainment Weekly as one of 100 best albums of all time.  A great period piece of the 60’s “Super Albums” produced as art by a 60’s group.

Purchased: 7/23/95 – J&R $9.99

Symphony No. 6, Pastorale - #376

Beethoven

1965 CBS Masterwork 1/1/65

Good Beethoven, Great Bernstein.  Put the two together and it doesn’t get much better than this.

Purchased: 5/1/89 – Columbia House $12.98

Symphony No. 9 in D minor - #336

Beethoven

1987 CBS Masterwork 1/1/61

More great music, all of the Beethoven Albums I have are good.  This one is a little older so the technical quality is a bit less.  Still, great stuff.  “Coral” is one of my favorite classical pieces

Purchased: 2/11/88 – Tower Records $12.98

Symphony No. 5 in C minor - #371

Beethoven & Shubert

1981 CBS Masterwork 1/1/81

Symphony 5.  Classical collection requisite. Ranks a 5 but orchestra could be ‘fuller’.  Bernstein would have made this better.  But this is really good.

Purchased: 5/12/89 – Columbia House $12.98

Little Bit Of Mambo, A - #693

Bega, Lou

1999 RCA 8/21/99

Mambo Number 5 a monster hit.  Lou better enjoy it while he can because the rest of the music if vulgar and pedestrian

Purchased: 11/1/99 – BuyMusic.com $9.99

Here’s To The Ladies - #528

Bennett, Tony

1995 Columbia 1/1/95

Tony Bennett honors the girl singers in a guy sort of way.  Good but could be better with arrangements that have more zest.  Have to give it a 4 because he is so good and so venerable.  And too much of a good thing, if there were fewer songs and more zest to each performance it would be swell

Purchased: 4/11/96 – J&R $12.99

Something Cool - #257

Bentyne, Cheryl

1992 Columbia 1/1/92

Wonderful smooth jazz from a member of the Manhattan Transfer.  I first did not like this music now I love it.  She can weave and wear her voice as the instrument that is part of the Jazz Group that I love the most

Purchased: 1/1/92 -  $14.99

Movie & TV Themes - #369

Bernstein, Elmer

1962 Mobil Fidelity

A good album, Walk on the Wild Side is here.  The others are not that familiar but entertaining .  I like this sometimes just a background music.

Purchased: 1/1/91 -  $4.99
